With A Hymn Revival Volume 2, The Lower Lights sing, strum, pick, pluck, pound, and thump out the next chapter of their folk and bluegrass-inflected dive into the roots of the Christian songbook. Recorded live over four days in August 2011, Volume 2 picks up where their debut album left off– with fresh, spirited, rootsy takes on the classic hymnbook. But it also expands the collective's sound to classic country– Hank Willliams' "I Saw The Light" and "Calling You" and the Louvin Brothers' classic "The Christian Life"– as well as a Negro spiritual ("Go Down, Moses"), a gorgeous traditional Irish hymn ("Be Thou My Vision"), and more. This is the document of 20-plus musicians– all hailing from a wide cross-section of genres like folk, electronica, pop, americana, indie rock, and bluegrass– getting together for four days, mining the Christian songbook, and seeing what happens.
